Tour

Near a shrine in Japan he's swept the path
and then placed camellia blossoms there.

Or--we had no way of knowing--he's swept the path
between fallen camellias.

The Hand

The teacher asks a question.
You know the answer, you suspect
you are the only one in the classroom
who know the answer, because the person
in question is yourself, and on that
you are the greatest living authority.
but you don't raise you hand.
You raise the top of your desk
and take out an apple.
You look out the window.
You don't raise your hand and there is
some essential beauty in your fingers,
which aren't even drumming, but lie
flat and peaceful.
The teacher repeats the question.
Outside the window, on an overhanding branch,
a robin is ruffling its feathers
and spring is in the air.

Spaceship Earth

"It is very important in disembarrassing ourselves of our vanity, short-sightedness, biases, and ignorance in general, in respect to universal evolution, to think in the following manner. I’ve often heard people say, ’I wonder what it would be like to be on board a spaceship," and the answer is very simple. What does it feel like? That’s all we have ever experienced. We are all astronauts."
